    Coming full circle with Work & Training

  1. What was holding you back?

    I had been teaching for over 10 years in the fields of both music and English as a Second Language, as well as some sporadic tuition in literacy and numeracy - I had finally found work that I really enjoyed and was passionate about. However, I wasn’t able to pick up regular work as I had no official qualifications as a teacher. So, I approached Work & Training to see how they could help me.

  2. How did you overcome those barriers?

    Work & Training suggested that I study the Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. My trainer quickly identified that I had the potential to study further and recommended a career pathway that I had simply not thought possible previously. My Work & Training teacher explained to me that I could receive credit towards a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education because I had completed the Level IV in Workplace Assessment and Training - she opened my eyes to a new career.

  3. What was the outcome

    I decided to follow my teacher’s advice and ended up completing the Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education at the University of Tasmania, then the Graduate Certificate of Education and a Masters of Education. I have since gained stable and highly rewarding full-time work back where it all began, at Work and Training!
