Our Lauceston office is moving to bigger premises.

Work & Training Launceston are excited to be moving to a bigger, more central location. From September 6^th the Launceston office will be located at 26 Elizabeth Street Launceston, conveniently located next to the council car park and within walking distance of the city. The new premises will be equipped with larger, more flexible training rooms which will be available for hire, subject to bookings.

Winners already!

On Friday 3^rd September at the Tasmanian Training Awards the Tasmanian Trainee and Apprentice of the Year will be won. We have our highest ever number of finalists for these awards – our employees make up 25% of finalists!

Congratulations to finalists Stephen Lampard (hosted by Macquarie Builders), Zoey Keleher (Aurora Energy), Amanda Van Steenis (TMAG), Elizabeth Ziegler (Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens) and Shaun Andrews (Sacred Heart College).

Winners will represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards in Sydney.

Kick Start Extension announced, providing extra incentives to take on apprentices

This new phase follows the success of the initial Apprentice Kickstart program over the summer of 2009–10, when employers in traditional trades took on about 24,400 young apprentices nationally. The measure was important in lifting the youth rate to above pre-GFC levels.

Small and medium-sized employers who employ an Australian Apprentice who are aged 19 years and under and undertaking a Certificate III or IV level qualification that leads to a skills shortage trade occupation are eligible for $3350 in bonus payments.

The Apprentice Kickstart Extension is payable for commencements from 12 May until 12 November 2010.

Aged Care Course Completion

Congratulations to the participants of our recent Certificate III in Aged Care Course, completed under the Productivity Places Program. 10 participants in the group of 17 had found employment prior to the completion of the course, the remaining participants are actively seeking employment with probable positive outcomes in the near future. Congratulations to you all.

Jobseekers we have the answer for your training needs.

State-wide pre-vocational training and support for job seekers

Work and Training has successfully tendered for The Australian Apprenticeships Access Program in Tasmania which aims to assist participants to gain and maintain an Australian Apprenticeship leading to skilled employment.

The funding for this project three year program has been provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Work Place Relations.

The Operations Manager of Work & Training South Leanne Wallace said “We are very excited to have secured this tender. It gives us the opportunity to work with Job Services Australia and other providers to assist jobseekers to gain the skills they require to enter employment. The program ensures that jobseekers also receive job search support and continued support after they gain employment. We are well placed to deliver this program as we have delivered successful pre employment programs in the past. Our qualified trainers have relevant industry experience and the ability to connect with the jobseekers. Our state wide facilities in Ulverstone, Launceston and Hobart ensure state wide coverage. This coupled with our partnerships with Tasmanian businesses will provide jobseekers with a pathway into employment.”

The primary focus of the Access Program is to support participants to gain an Australian Apprenticeship through the provision of nationally recognised training (sub-Certificate III level); employability or generic skills; personal support and advocacy; and job search and post-placement support.

Work & Training will deliver units from the following qualifications

· Certificate III in Aged care

· Certificate III in Disability

· Certificate II in Hospitality

· Certificate I in Transport and Distribution

Jobseekers will need to contact Job Services Australia providers or Centrelink to be referred to Work & Training.

School Based Trainees and Apprentices - Indigenous.
Work & Training has been awarded this tender by DEEWR. We will place 35 school-aged indigenous trainees and apprentices between now and the end of August 2010. Places will be for 2 days per week in a wide range of companies according to the career aspirations of the trainee or apprentice and those of the company.
